The Avengers

Now I’ve not seen ‘The Avengers’ yet, but I’ve noticed a lot of other illustrators have been going to see it and then subsequently drawing a character from it. I’ve seen some jolly good ‘Hulk’ drawings and I particularly liked Robin Davey’s ‘Thor’.

Until I actually see the film, however, all you can expect from me is a bad joke in the form of John Steed from ‘The Avengers’

Planes in rain

I’ve been having a whale of a time drawing simple aeroplanes of varying description. I liked the idea of a massive super-plane, being escorted by smaller jet-fighter style planes but couldn’t really get the image how I wanted it. Then I went outside and got rained on (my least favourite thing happened: wet socks) and I got a flash of soggy inspiration.

I was just having a doodle in my sketchbook and noticed these sketches for the recent animation I worked on with Suited and Booted Studios. Thought I’d post them as I find other peoples’ preliminary sketch work really interesting.

Website re-design

Blimey! It was a bit of a task getting this site spruced up and back online.

I don’t know quite enough CSS to be able to breeze through changes to WordPress themes as easily as I’d like, so tweaking them always involves a certain amount of trial and error. I feel my way through the Style.css and various .php documents like I’m crawling through a thorn bush at night. Then I have to use an FTP program to heft it all up on the server. I’ve done this a few times in the past, but I’m never entirely sure what it is I did when I’ve been successful.

Anyway, it seemed to work and now I have a slightly slicker site, with pictures and words. Hopefully it’s quick and easy to navigate, but do leave a comment if you find otherwise!

Sting for Evox Images

Elle and I have been swanning around in California for the past 2 months, hence little activity on this blog. I got asked to do an animated sting by Evox Images as they saw the Greensquare animation and liked the cut of it’s jib.

Having only 3 days to turn it around was interesting (I had to work teaching myself After Effects into my time budget!) but here it is, with comedy sound effects.

Just before jetting off to The States, I worked with Suited and Booted Studios to create a promo animation for GreenSquare. I did the illustration, working out of Suited and Booted Towers. Jack Lilley took care of the animation, after I’d fleed the country.

It was great fun to do and has definitely made me want to do more animated stuff. Which is lucky as I appear to have another small project of a similar ilk to crack on with now.

Hinterland – This week!

So the Hinterland exhibition is now on at the Centrespace gallery in Bristol.

There’s some pretty amazing work in it so I’d recommend catching it while it’s on. I know I’m biased, being part of the exhibition, but it really does look great and I’m pretty chuffed to be a part of it!
